RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Amid the severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings Monday, many areas in central North Carolina had extensive damage and many were without power. In Wake Forest, Ligon Mill Road from Falconhurst Drive to Creek Moss Avenue is closed due to downed power lines. In Raleigh near Garner, a large tree fell on top of powerlines and across Simpkins Road near Fayetteville Road blocking all traffic on Simpkins Road. Also in Raleigh, a fire started along powerlines at Old Wake Forest Road and Falls of Neuse Road, possibly when a lightning strike hit.
